Please see the following information from Harborough District Council with regards to refuse arrangements for the Christmas period.
Bin tags (luggage label style tags) are being placed on black bins across the Harborough district to let residents know the dates of their Christmas bin collections.
Residents, who have already subscribed to the council's garden waste collection service, will receive an extra green bin collection during the weeks commencing 13 and 20 January 2020 (the same day as your blue-lidded recycling bin is due to be collected) when real Christmas trees can be recycled.
Please ensure real Christmas trees are sawn / cut down, if required, and placed in the green bin with the lid closed. You can also compost trees or take them to the nearest Recycling and Household Waste site (tip).
Christmas cards and wrapping paper can be recycled in the blue-lidded wheeled bin, excluding foil, glitter-decorated and plastic cards and wrapping paper.
If bins are unable to be collected in the event of severe weather, such as heavy snow, residents should leave their bins presented and our collection crews will empty them as soon as they are able. (Residents should not report them as 'missed bins' in these circumstances).
Harborough District Council will be open until 4pm on Tuesday 24 December 2019, and will close for the Christmas period, re-opening on Thursday 2 January 2020. Lifeline will continue to operate the Council's out-of-hours emergency service during the festive period using the regular telephone contact number - 01858 828282.
Residents can continue to access a range of Council information, during this period, via our website.
All our festive information - including events, Christmas bin collections, recycling advice, Council opening hours, severe weather advice, etc - will be available via our dedicated webpage www.harborough.gov.uk/Christmas
Finally, may we take this opportunity to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
