Leicestershire and Rutland Conservatives have chosen Rupert Matthews MEP as their candidate for the elected role of Leicestershire Police and Crime Commissioner.
Mr Matthews, who lives in Kibworth, has been a Member of the European Parliament for the East Midlands since June 2017. Aside from politics, he is the author of more than 170 books on history, paranormal activity, guides to the UK and children's stories.
The election will take place in May 2020 - not this year. The
successful candidate will succeed Lord Willy Bach who also lives in the
Harborough District and who was elected in May 2016. He has announced that he will not be seeking re-election.
Labour has not yet elected a candidate to fight the election.
